Golden Globes Part 1 - Luxola Beauty Trend Report

Golden Globes: Women dressing in unflattering gowns that people have lied and said they look good in.

KIDDING

Hey y'all! It's a warm tuesday night when I'm writing this post and this will probably be up tomorrow afternoon, so I hope you all will be enjoying your lunch when you're reading this post! Anyway, it's time for some Golden Globes fabulosity!

How many times have we looked pictures of celebs at red carpet events and thought 'Jeez, if only I am as gorgeous as them!' or 'I love her hair/nails/dress/makeup! If only I could recreate that!'. Looking absolutely photo-ready from head to toe is definitely something that we all want!

You don't need to spend a ton of money at a nail salon just because you want your nails done like Selena Gomez's nails! Chances are, unless your manicurist is the same as whichever celebs'. you probably won't get a dead on manicure/shade. On a totally different note, Selena Gomez has a collaboration with Nicole by O.P.I and there is a collection inspired by the beautiful actress.

I digress. Now, back to what we were saying.

About finding a dead on shade/manicure. Trust me, it isn't easy. Besides, when you get your nails done at a nail salon, you're probably going to walk out with somewhat messed up manicures (unless its a gel mani). I'm speaking from experience, I've even been to well-known Nail parlours (not naming names) and somehow I'm still not completely satisfied. That's why I'm a nail polish hoarder now and I do my nails myself. I just can't justify spending close to 60 dollars for someone else to paint my nails when I do it myself and get multiple manicures out of one bottle of polish (say O.P.I, China Glaze, or Models Own) for around $8 to $12. In the comforts of my own room too!

One thing that I search the net regularly for are nail and makeup trends. No, I'm not saying this for the sake of this Luxola Beauty Report. Just to be clear on this. I really do search for nails trends and etc online all the time. Sites of publications like Harper's Bazaar and Herworld regularly have beauty trend reports too. Knowing trends can help inspire me when I want to do my nails. It's easier to choose colours and patterns. Not that you have to follow these trends, but knowing them certainly makes life easier since they are good references!

Now enough jabber, I present you with Luxola's Golden Globe Awards Trend Report. Perhaps this can provide some help for DIY manicures and makeup looks! Beauty does not need to come at a high price! (No need to pay for service, just the products!)

I'll be introducing and promoting some products that you can get on luxola's website as well as products that I personally think would suit the trends as well.

It wasn’t just about the gorgeous gowns at this year’s Golden Globes. From sexy smoky eyes to winged eyeliner, celebs walked the red carpet with stunning makeup and nails. In this post, we’ll be covering the nail and makeup trends that dominated the red carpet.

Nails

I know most people won't read till the end, so I'm just going to say that all prices quoted are in SGD

Adele's nails were a perfect metallic bright orangey copper shade. It just screams 'party animal'! You can try multiple orange toned colors, be it neons or foil finish metallics! Some recommended polishes:

-Models Own's Beach Party from the Hed Kandi Collection (S$12)
   available at luxola right HERE

-China Glaze's Harvest Moon from the Hunger Games Collection ($8)
available at Smoochiezz warehouse and D.Y.O.N international @ scape underground

-O.P.I's Sprung from the Mariah Carey Collection ($10)

Kelly Osbourne sported a perfectly polished 'My Nails but Better' look with pointed tips. No girl can do without a nude polish. Kelly Osbourne pulls this off perfectly, adding a bit of edginess to an otherwise plain manicure. (HAHA Edginess, pointed tip! Get it? No? Hmm...) ANYWAY, here's some recommendations:

-Models Own's Bare Beauty (S$12)
    available at luxola right HERE

-Essie's Brooch the Subject from the Cocktail Bling Collection ($9)
    available at Smoochiezz warehouse

-O.P.I's Samoan Sand ($10)
available at Smoochiezz warehouse and D.Y.O.N international @ scape underground

-O.P.I's Don't Pretzel My Buttons from the Germany Collection ($10)

Vanessa Hudgens had varied patterns on her digits, featuring a black base and gold geometric and ombre accents. I personally love her nails alot because I love the colour combo, amazing! Ombre nails can be done easily by using a sponge to dab a differing color onto nail tips. Tutorials are widely avaible on youtube, so check out youtube! Polish recommendations:

-Models Own's Disco Inferno from the Mirrorball Collection (S$12)
    available at luxola right HERE

-O.P.I's Goldeneye from the Skyfall Collection ($10)
available at Smoochiezz warehouse and D.Y.O.N international @ scape underground

For a more luxurious effect and feel,

-O.P.I's The Man With the Golden Gun from the Skyfall Collection, an 18K gold leaf top coat ($32)
available at Clementi BHG, available for $38 at Smoochiezz warehouse

Eyes

Moving on to the eye makeup!

Most of the stars wore a smoky eye. There was, however one dominant variation of the smoky eye. Instead of traditional black, these stars used metallic jewel tones instead!

Julianne Hough. Very nice and smokey neutral bronze look. Nothing overly dramatic, which is good because her dress was stunning!

HOMAIKOT (yes, spelled this way for maximum effect) this is stunning! My jaw just dropped and I'm trying to find it. Anyway, on to the products!

-Edward Bess Ultra Luminous Eye Shadow in the shade 'Escape' ($34)
    available at luxola right HERE

-Urban Decay Eyeshadow in the shade 'Smog' available in the UD Naked Palette
the Naked palette is available at Sephora for $80

-M.A.C eyeshadow in the shade 'Romp' ($30 I believe, I might be wrong it might be $28)
available at all M.A.C Ngee Ann City. Also, counters at Tangs, Sephora, and BHG

Morena Baccarin. How do I even begin to describe this smoldering eye look. It's so sultry, I love it.  Her look was more of a classic smokey eye, but with metallic silver accents, kicking up the classic smokey eye a few notches. So here's what you can consider using

-Sleek Makeup Molten Metal Duo Eye Shadow in Steel and Ash ($20)
    available at luxola right HERE

-Chanel Illusion D'ombre Cream Eyeshadow in 'Mirifique' (I think it's $54, but I might be wrong)
    available at all chanel counters
**I love the color and intensity, but it doesn't have the best lasting power, especially in humid Singapore. Best if used for formal events where it's held indoors and is fully air conditioned.

-Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr eyeshadow in 'Audacious Asphalt' ($12.90)
available at guardian and watsons store. Basically anywhere that stocks maybelline. Do note that the price mentioned is the introduction price, if I'm not mistaken the price should be $15.90 after the introductory period of the color tattoos. I will update/confirm once I have checked

Hayden Panettiere. I used to not be able to pronounce her last name right when I was younger. Okay, enough of that. She is the epitome of effortless beauty! I love her barely there eye look for the Golden Globes! Gosh I'd kill for her dewy skin! I think that of all the looks, this would be my go to look If I wasn't too lazy to put on eye makeup everyday. It's soft and natural, a golden glow with a hint of deep brown smokiness at the corner. Here's some great products to use

-Sleek Makeup Molten Metal Duo Eye Shadow in Gold Leaf and Pewter ($20)
    available at luxola right HERE

-Urban Decay Eyeshadow in the shade 'Half Baked' ($30)
available as an individual shadow at sephora or in the UD Naked palette, the latter retailing for $80

-Sleek iDivine Palette in 'Storm' ($20)
    available at luxola right HERE
**the lighter shades are good allover lid colors while the darker shades make good crease colors

I hope this was a good guide for you all! I certainly enjoyed doing this post because I was having so much fun playing around and swatching the eyeshadows that I have to find suitable colors for each trend! Yayness,

Before I end of this post, I do have one other thing to recommend. The 88 shimmer palette from coastal scents is a great product to buy if you want a large variety of eyshadow colors. It's a very good beginner's makeup item to buy. In fact I started out my makeup collection with several of the 88 palettes from coastal scents (which I might blog about next time). You can pretty much find any basic colors that you might need in that palette (of course it doesn't have colors like the unique 'Beauty Marked' by M.A.C, but hey it does have a decent array)!

  Have a wonderful Wednesday lovelies!

xoxo
